Most vision insurance plans entitle you to a yearly eye exam.

With that, you are also paying for an annual allowance or discount toward eyewear or contact lenses.

However, most plans do not roll that allowance over to the new year.

You're paying for it, so you mind as well use it.

According to the centers for disease control, people with vision loss are more likely to experience

Depression, diabetes, falls and premature death.

So it is important to your overall health to visit an optometrist

And to know your family's eye health history.

You can also maintain your sight by eating right.

We've all heard that carrots are good for our eyes, but so are dark leafy greens.

Protective eyewear is also important.

The sun's ultraviolet rays can cause permanent damage.

Also it's important to rest your eyes.

Try the 20-20-20 rule at work.

Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet, for 20 seconds.

This exercise can help reduce eyestrain.
