Parents suing Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Comptroller
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
Parents are suing the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza.
According to a complaint filed on August 10 in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, the parents allege their kids have been harmed because the state hasn't paid their bills.
Three moms are filing the lawsuit. They're from Cook, Williamson and McHenry Counties.
The complaint asks the court to order the state to pay the remaining categorical payment to Illinois school districts. This would get funding to programs such as special education, transportation and free and reduced lunches.
It also is requesting the court restrict the state from vouchering and distributing General State Aid for Fiscal Year 2018 using anything other than an evidence-based funding model created by law as required by Senate Bill 6.
Senate Bill 6 created part of the state's budget for the current fiscal year.
