Illinois Retail Merchant's Association selects Springfield Business Owner to Represent in Washington, DC

Updated: Wednesday, July 23 2014, 04:24 PM CDT

30 years ago, Bernie Koch opened Appearances Salon in Springfield for business.

Recently, he was one of 4 business owners in the state selected by the Illinois Retail Merchant's Association to head to Washington DC.  At the end of the month, he'll join 150 other business owners, entreprenuers and others for the  National Retail Federation's Fly-in.

Koch says his main purpose of attending is to advocate on behalf of the retail industry.  While there will be networking and educational opportunities available there, Koch says he's hoping his issues will be heard. He plans to discuss tax fairness, as most retailers online aren't abligated to tax their items.  This puts Koch and other store owners at a 7% disadvantage.
