Standoff Turns Into Shoot Out In Christian County

CHRISTIAN COUNTY -- Deadly shoot out leaves one person is dead, and a police officer is in
the hospital, after shots are fired at a standoff in rural Christian

A call came in at 3:15am, on 1498 350 north road for a man, armed with a gun.

That's about 7 miles west of Pana.
Illinois State Police (ISP) are in the initial phases of this
investigation, but they were able to piece together what happened at a
two story house in rural christian county early this morning.

Investigators say, they were already familiar with the home.

That cooperation was needed early this morning when
officials say a Pana police officer who worked with the Central Illinois
Enforcement Group entered a home, after receiving a man with a gun
call. Officials say the officer was shot by an armed suspect inside the

Authorities are not releasing the officer's identity at this
time,  but did tell us the officer is 38 years old and has been on the
force for 14 years.
"He's always willing to put others before
himself you know, so I'm proud of him and looking forward to seeing
him," said Daniel Bland, Pana Chief of Police.

The officer is in stable condition with non life threatening injuries at Memorial Hospital.

ISP SWAT and air teams attempted to negotiate with him.

The roof is now white with the remnants of the fire extinguisher used to put out the blaze.

County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp got emotional as he recalled how
authorities have been keeping an eye on this house for a while because
of it's connection to Methamphetamine.

"We've got some great
guys that are on the drug task force, that's what they do, they put drug
dealers in jail, We've been looking at this house for several months.
Our deputies responded, they contacted to the Central Illinois
Enforcement Group and they did a great job," said Sheriff Kettelkamp.

Investigators also questioned three other people inside the home during the standoff.
