Gov. Rauner signs SB 8
URBANA, Ill. (WCCU) —
Governor Bruce Rauner signed Senate Bill 8 at the University of Illinois Thursday.
The bill amends the Small Business Contract Act and the Government Joint Purchasing Act to lessen the regulations needed for Illinois universities to make purchases.
Governor Rauner says some companies won't even bid on offering products or services to the university because of how complicated Illinois’ laws are.
"By being able to buy things more promptly, through a more efficient process and we can get lower costs when a supplier,” Governor Rauner said. “When a manufacturer says they know what the commitment is, they know what their deal is. They can actually be more aggressive in their bidding and lower their costs down."
Governor Rauner says the state expects to save millions of dollars every year with this bill, because it more bidders will get universities a better opportunity to get the lowest rates.
