Annual Polar Plunge sign ups begin
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCCU) —
Registration is officially open for several local Polar Plunges.
The Polar Plunge in Mahomet takes place at the Lake of the Woods on February 24. There will be another at University of Illinois’s Memorial Stadium March 10. Pools will be brought in for that plunge.
All funds raised will go to Illinois Special Olympics.
"It's our biggest fundraiser that we do statewide,” Special Olympics Region I Sports Director Jackie Walk said. “We don't charge our athletes to compete and we also don't receive any state or federal funding. So this is our biggest money maker to keep those programs free of charge. And last year we brought in just under $4 million."
You must raise at least $100 to participate.
