C-U community members invite Rep. Davis to town hall addressing gun violence
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) —
Champaign-Urbana community members are hosting a town hall this week to discuss gun violence. The members organized the meeting after Parkland, Florida students asked people across the country to contact their representatives to host the town hall.
The local group dropped off the invitation Monday afternoon including a petition of more than 400 signatures at Congressman Rodney Davis' office. The organizers said democratic candidate for the 13th congressional district, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan accepted the invitation.
“Whether you're in favor of more gun control, against more gun control, a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, or if you're not so sure about the Second Amendment -- this [town hall] is where you can find out in person from one of the people who might end up being our congress person where they stand on this issue,” community member, Terry Maher said.
The organizers said they have not heard back from Congressman Davis yet. The town hall will start at 6:30pm on Thursday at the Champaign Public Library.
