Carlinville opens new Amtrak station
CARLINVILLE, Ill. (WRSP) —
Residents in Carlinville have a new way to travel in the form of a new Amtrak station.
The completion of the station is a part of several station improvements overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
The new station features modern facilities for passengers on Amtrak's Lincoln Service and Texas Eagle.
The Mayor said at one point the new station wasn't going to happen.
"We rallied the community and the community came and supported us,” Carlinville Mayor Deanna Demuzio said. “And IDOT was here and they worked very closely with us."
The $3.7 million project was a four-year-long process.
It was funded by a federal grant administered by IDOT to improve on the Union Pacific Railroad between Chicago and St. Louis.
