Champaign County Flu Season Reaching A Peak This Week
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCCU) —
Flu season is here and it's only getting worse.
The Champaign County Public Health District said the flu season lasts from November to as late as May.
But this week, the virus is peaking and it's expected to carry into next week.
They say many kids are staying home from school and their employees are also getting hit hard.
"For this year, in the last week or two, we have seen flu numbers go up substantially,” Epidemiologist Awais Vaid said. “There can be some serious complications, hospitalization with flu, and even deaths have been reported."
The Champaign County Public Health District said about 10 percent of all hospital visits are flu related.
They say it’s not too late to get your flu shot.
It's also advised to stay home if you or your children feel any flu-like symptoms to prevent the sickness from spreading.
