First look at Champaign Unit 4 high school renovation and expansion plan
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) —
Champaign Unit 4 school board members got a first look Tuesday evening at a proposed renovation plan for Central and Centennial High Schools.
Architects from “Perkins+Will" based in Chicago shared schematic designs of the two high schools. Some of the renovations and expansions include Central's gymnasium and science labs and Centennial’s new administration center and additional classrooms.
“We’re putting together what the needs are, what spaces are needed, what the spaces are going to look like and we're really starting to filter out where the spaces are going to be,” board president of Champaign Unit 4 School District, Chris Kloeppel said. “That's what we're starting to see so last night's drawings are really the culmination of those conversations and really kind of a first look at where we're at at this point."
The school board will vote on the approval of the schematic designs in January and constructions is expected to start spring 2018.
