Decatur officer involved shooting deemed justified
DECATUR, Ill. (WRSP) —
A Decatur detective is now in the clear after an investigation into an officer-involved shooting on May 31.
It happened in the 800 block of South Webster following a traffic stop and foot pursuit that ended in the shooting of Donald Redmon by Decatur Police Detective Jeffrey Hockaday.
After the Illinois State Police investigation, the Macon County State's Attorney's Office determined the use of force by the detective was justified.
The Decatur chief of police says he's thankful there was no loss of life in this incident. Authorities say no further details are being released at this time.
