FBI Offers $10,000 Reward for Missing U of I Visiting Scholar
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WRSP) —
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that can help find Yingying Zhang, the 26-year-old missing scholar who went missing at the Urbana-Champaign University of Illinois campus on June 9th.
The FBI has ruled her disappearance a kidnapping, after surveillance video shows her waiting on the outskirts of the campus, near a Bus Stop on Goodwin Avenue and West Clarke Street.
“It’s a little disturbing to think there’s a girl outside. She was picked up on campus and we don’t know what happened to her,” said Robin Huang, an organizer of the search for Zhang.
Since the disappearance of Zhang, students of the university said have been working relentlessly to find her.
“We’ve searched every community around us, so we are really worried about her,” said Hexin Zhou, a resident of Urbana.
“My friends did a really good job looking but nothing, no good news so far,” said Hao Xu, a student of the University of Illinois.
Yingying Zhang’s family flew into the area on Saturday, according to Huang. She said they are now working with the university and campus police to find Zhang.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the family: https://www.gofundme.com/missing-u-of-i-scholar
