Fish and wildlife found dead in Iroquois County
IROQUOIS COUNTY, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) —
An unconfirmed hazardous material caused fish and wildlife deaths in parts of Coon Creek and Sugar Creek in Iroquois County Friday, May 18.
Fish, other water life and land creatures that drink or eat from the creeks were found dead.
Local officials are working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to determine the cause and severity of the issue.
People are advised to take precautions when near the affected areas. The public is urged not to eat fish or wildlife from the creeks, as it is contaminated.
The investigation is still ongoing.
