Hundreds rally against President Trump’s decision to end DACA
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
Many are outraged by the President's choice to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
In Springfield hundreds were rallying outside the Illinois State Capital.
With the end of DACA, the fates of about 800,000 Dreamers are up in the air, awaiting a decision from Congress.
Rally organizers say the Dream Act needs to come to the floor.
"They're welcome here,” said Jennifer Lee, Co-president of Action Illinois. “And we just want to show our support more than anything, and show congress, show our local representatives, that we want to have a bipartisan dream act passed."
The Dream Act is a first grant conditional residency.
DACA was formed in 2012 with President Barrack Obama’s executive order, and allows Dreamers who come to the U.S. illegally as minors to be temporarily protected from deportation.
