IDOT Launches New Mobile Friendly Website
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) —
Illinois drivers can now see what's happening on the roads before they have to pump the brakes.
IDOT's new mobile friendly website offers real time information that can be seen right on your phone.
"I travel around quite a bit and there's generally quite a bit of back up, especially in Illinois, with having a lot of construction,” driver Justin Volker said. “So it'd definitely be nice to know about it before hand."
The website warns you about road work, closures and weather that might be affecting road conditions.
IDOT’s previous website only had information on road conditions, but the new mobile version is easier, more user friendly and updates road conditions as they happen.
However, the mobile site doesn’t report traffic conditions, which is why some drivers say they might just stick with what they already use to get around.
"You put it in Waze in the app and it's on your iPhone, and if there's a traffic jam, in real time, it will reroute you to a different route that's faster,” driver Charlie Laskonis.
IDOT’s new site does tell you about road work that might be causing the delays, however, before they slow you down.
"I think before this came out, there weren't a whole lot of resources to find out what the road conditions were, so I'm really glad there's something out there,” Volker said.
