Illinois Republican Says Lawmakers Shouldn't Be Paid First
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
Thursday, a Cook County judge ruled that state lawmakers must be paid immediately, despite Illinois’ $13 billion backlog.
One Illinois senator disagrees with the ruling and says lawmakers should be paid in line with everything else.
"What I did was immediately file an amendment to senate bill 989," Sen. Dan McConchie, R-Hawthorne Woods, said. "It provides very explicitly that whenever we are overdue on our bills, the comptroller is able to put legislator pay in line with everyone else."
Republican Senator Dan McConchie says Representative Mark Batinick filed a House bill that would also put lawmaker pay in line with other state bills.
The Comptroller’s Office has already begun paying lawmakers as of Friday.
