Judge denies Christensen trial date delay
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) —
The judge's decision is in and the request for a later trial date was denied.
Lawyers for accused kidnapper Brendt Christensen filed the motion last month, saying the defense needs more time to prepare.
But federal judge Colin Bruce shut down that request, standing by the February 27 trial date.
This means the government has until February 1 to decide whether or not they will seek the death penalty in this case.
Christensen is charged with the kidnapping resulting in the death of missing University of Illinois scholar Yingying Zhang.
