Local organizations partnered up to give over 200 children in need a back-to-school boost.

Organizers said this was not an ordinary back-to-school send off. Each child received a new pair of shoes, school supplies, and a fresh new haircut. Contact Ministries, a local social service organization, interviewed each family chosen and hosted Thursday's back-to-school event.

One of the event organizers said it's important to make sure kids feel confident on their first day.

"If you have the things you need, you feel good about going," said Executive Director of Contact Ministries, Cindy Drum. "No one wants to go the first day of school and everyone else is getting out their supplies and has their new book bag and you don't have what you need." She also said the back-to-school giveaway is meant to help alleviate the burden on teachers who buy supplies for their students with their own money.
