Missing U of I scholar removed from FBI's 'Kidnapping and Missing Persons' list
URBANA, Ill. (WCCU) —
The FBI removed missing University of Illinois scholar, Yingying Zhang from the ‘Kidnappings and Missing Persons’ list on its website.
The FBI has not yet said why Zhang was removed from that list, but this comes after suspect, Brendt Christensen was indicted on charges of kidnapping. Investigators said Zhang is believed to be dead.
She was last seen on campus at the corner of Clark and Goodwin, but the family is not giving up hope. The family and CrimeStoppers announced Friday morning they're increasing the reward to $50,000 for anyone with information that can lead to Zhang’s whereabouts. The reward was previously $40,000.
“Now our number one priority is to find Yingying,” Zhang’s boyfriend, Xiaolin Hou said. “For that we need your help, if you have any information that might help investigators find Yingying please help us share it.”
The reward will come from Zhang’s family as they’re using money that was donated to them through a GoFundMe.
The family also said they don't plan to return back to China until they find Zhang.
