Officials investigating ammonia leak at JBS Plant
BEARDSTOWN, Ill. (WRSP) —
The Occupation Safety and Health Administration is investigating an ammonia leak at the JBS Plant in Beardstown.
According to a JBD spokesperson, the leak happened last week but it released a harmless amount of the ammonia.
Workers tried to fix the leak and that's when it became worse.
160 people were evacuated before the faulty equipment was repaired.
Officials said there were no major injuries but 12 people did go to the nursing station and returned to work a short time later.
The company spokesperson said they have notified the EPA as a precaution, but they were not required to due to the small size of the leak.
