Rival Gangs Involved in Stabbing, Shooting at State Fairgrounds
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
We’re learning new details about the shooting and stabbing at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Detectives say it was rival gang members who opened fire.
Crime Stoppers Officer Mike Badger says, thankfully, no one was killed from the gunfire.
However, four people were stabbed during the brawl.
Badger says this all started when gang members began shooting at each other inside and outside of a crowded building on the fairgrounds in mid-April.
Those four people who were stabbed were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Badger says a lot of damage was caused to the surrounding area because of this gang shootout.
“Well the damage will total in the thousands and thousands of dollars just for the vehicles that were struck and windows from the building were taken out,” Officer Badger said.
When police arrived on scene the crowd quickly left the area.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
