SIU faculty vote to oppose eliminating departments
CARBONDALE, Ill. (WRSP) —
Faculty members at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale approved a resolution opposing the elimination of departments and department chairs.
This goes against the chancellor's restructuring plan, which would reduce the number of university colleges from 8 to 5.
The chancellor's plan is estimated to save about $2.3 million in administrative costs.
Faculty members say eliminating departments will cause institutional instability.
