Springfield holds October hazardous waste collection

Springfield holds October hazardous waste collection (WRSP)

The City of Springfield is hosting a VOUCHER-ONLY Household Hazardous Waste Collection on October 28 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Residents of the city who are participating in the drop off MUST have a voucher in-hand in order to dispose of their materials. Proof of residency (i.e. driver’s license or utility bill) and voucher will be required at time of drop off.

How to obtain a voucher:

Residents must first contact the Office of Public Works by calling 217.789.2255 or submit an online form available at www.springfield.il.us/recycling.

The resident must provide the following information when a voucher is requested:

  • Full name
  • Contact phone number
  • Address
  • Email (if applicable)
  • Type and amount of items that will be dropped off
  • Participants must be a resident of the City of Springfield corporate limits

Vouchers are limited and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon registering residents will be advised of options for picking up the vouchers. Options include: pick-up in-person at the Office of Public Works, 300 S. 7th St., Room 203, during business hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday). Vouchers can also be emailed or mailed to the resident upon request. Please note: the last day for mailing vouchers is Wednesday, October 25. Any voucher requests made after this date will have to be picked up in-person or emailed.

After registering for a voucher, the resident will be given a time to deliver their hazardous waste. This information will be provided to the resident over the phone or via email, depending on the contact preference. The information will also be contained on the voucher.

On the day of the drop off, if a person misses their time slot, they will not be able to make a delivery. No early arrivals will be accepted. If for any reason a resident is unable to make the drop off, please call the Office of Public Works so that the time slot can be given to another resident. Registration will end on Thursday, October 26 at 4:00 p.m.
