Springfield man remembered after deadly helicopter crash
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
Five people died Monday after a helicopter crashed in the East River of New York.
One of the victims was a graduate of Springfield High School.
Daniel Thompson, 34, moved to New York after graduating from Butler University.
Those who knew Thompson said he had not only a magnetic personality but also a talent for singing and playing the piano.
They said they will keep him in their memories.
“He was everything you could want in a student. I can't speak for his parents personally, but I know that they brought great joy in their lives, his smile and those blue eyes, he just lit up the room whenever he came into it,” said Mark Gifford, Thompson’s former vocal and piano coach.
The crash killed five people aboard, the pilot did survive.
