Springfield Police Determine Victim Dies by Firearm, Not Stabbing
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
A 24-year-old man is dead after he was shot on the north end of Springfield.
Police found the body inside a home last night on the 2100 Block of East Watch Street.
Police arrived on East Watch Street Friday around 4:00 p.m. to find Dezmeion Poole inside his apartment dead.
Investigators were there a few hours ago trying to understand what lead to his death.
Early investigations showed Poole might have been stabbed.
Following an autopsy investigators are now saying the wounds resemble those of someone who was shot.
Police said he was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE
On Friday, March 17, at approximately 4:28 p.m., Springfield Police Officers responded to the 2100 block of East Watch Street for a report of a 24-year-old male down inside of a residence.
Upon arrival, it was determined that the subject was deceased and a victim of a homicide by firearm. Springfield Police Detectives are actively investigating.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.
