70-year-old attacked on South 12th and Melrose
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) —
A 70-year-old man was attacked on 12th and Melrose on Tuesday morning at around 11 a.m. Springfield Police said no arrests have been made and they believe it was an isolated incident.
Police said the man stopped on Melrose Street and another white male arrived in a vehicle and attacked the 70-year-old-man and then fled the scene.
Police have been out there all day talking to people in the area trying to figure out what happened.
Fox Illinois did speak to a couple people who live nearby and they tell us they are fed up with all the violence happening and they are worried about the safety of their kids.
"Absolutely, I told my parents when they pulled up I'm looking for a new place,” a neighbor said. "This is getting way too close. My kids getting home during when this was happening, they could have been outside when it happened. I can't have that."
"You’re always hearing like gunshots and stuff like that so I don’t really think nothing of it but yeah this neighborhood needs to straighten up," a neighbor said.
The Fire Department was out there cleaning up some blood from the crime scene but as of right now this is still an ongoing investigation.
