UIS Graduates Largest Class in History
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP/WICS) —
A new record for the University of Illinois Springfield and the hundreds of students in the school's largest ever graduating class.
UIS class of 2017 is so large that they had to break it up into two groups.
"My feet were shaking and really excited to hear my name be called and to graduate,” said UIS graduate Grace Gollon.
“Today is not reality and I am so behind happy because it's done,” said UIS graduate Allyssa Brown.
Springfield's best and brightest all dressed in their caps and gowns.
This is marking their long journey of pursuing a goal they've been working so hard on.
“For me it kind of really hasn't sunk in yet. I’m pretty sure when I walk across that stage I’ll be like oh my god and when you look out and see all your friends all smiling and excited you know it's growth to see what's next is just exciting,” said UIS graduate Elijah Pounds
Family members attempting to hold back the tears as they watched their loved ones walk across the stage to accept their diplomas and officially become college graduates.
“I am not in a real place right now. I am just so happy,” said Brown.
More than 1,200 graduates packed the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
Making the 46th commencement the largest in UIS history.
“I am grateful for the split as are my family and those folks who have to sit in those seats for that extended period of time, but it will be a lot of fun to be just the arts and sciences,” said Brown.
“Completely done and it feels really good to have my degree and to have that other option later in life,” said Gollon.
