Urbana’s Mayor Calls Trump A “Bully” With New Order On Sanctuary Cities
URBANA, Ill. —
A recent executive order from the President of the United States has cities across the nation questioning the status of undocumented immigrants, but it's not fazing Urbana’s mayor.
Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed an order attempting to deny sanctuary cities federal grants.
Mayor Laurel Prussing said the newly declared sanctuary city of Urbana will continue to practice immigration protection regulations. She said this will not stop the city from following what they believe is right.
"Urbana feels very strongly that we will stand by our principles,” Prussing said. “And we're not going to be threatened, we're not going to be intimidated, and [Trump] can't just bully his way into doing whatever he thinks is right."
Mayor Prussing said if the order is implemented, she and local government officials will have to come up with a new budget at that time.
