Champions: Schlarman Academy Hilltoppers win State

The Hilltoppers hoist the IHSA 1A State Trophy.

After falling one game shy of the State Tournament last season, the Schlarman Academy Hilltoppers not only made it their goal to get to Redbird Arena in 2018, but to become State Champions.

Saturday, they did just that.

Bring home the first State Title in program history.

The game was never really in doubt.

Schlarman Academy stormed out to an 11-2 lead on Stockton en route to a 53-31 win.

Junior Janiah Newell led the way with a 17 point performance.

The Hilltoppers wrap up the season 32-1 overall and still credit the little things for making them State Champions.

"This is incredible," said All-State Guard Anaya Peoples. "We worked so hard for this moment right here. All the off days when we were in the gym, the 6 am in the mornings, the down and backs on the baselin. It all payed off and this moment is just... words can't describe it."

The Hilltoppers have no Seniors and bring back every player on the roster and will have their sights set on a repeat Title.
