The Flow of Finke: New Hair, New Degree, Same Love of Basketball

Michael Finke is averaging 11.8 points per game and a team high 6.1 rebounds per game this season.

HE CAN OFFICIALLY SAY HES A COLLEGE GRADUATE. BUT WITH ONE YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY REMAINING, WHATS NEXT FOR CHAMPAIGN'S OWN MICHAEL FINKE? FIRST, A NEW LOOK. DITCHING THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE HAIR ON THE ILLINI.

"I WAS THINKING ABOUT IT FOR AWHILE JUST BECAUSE WHEN I PLAY ALL THOSE LOOSE HAIRS WOULD GET IN MY WAY," SAID FINKE. "AND THEN I WAS GRADUATING, I FINISHED MY UNDERGRAD ON TUESDAY SO I FIGURED IT WAS A GOOD EXCUSE... I WAS GOING TO CUT IT EVENTUALLY SO I FIGURED IT WAS A GOOD TIME TO DO THAT."

FINKE CUT 10 INCHES OF HIS HAIR, SAYING GOODBYE TO HIS FLOW ON INSTAGRAM BUT DONATING IT TO LOCKS OF LOVE. NOW THAT HES DONE WITH UNDERGRAD, HIS EDUCATION WILL CONTINUE ALONG WITH HIS BASKETBALL CAREER.

"ILL START MY MASTERS PROGRAM SO I'M GOING TO BE AN RST, RECREATION SPORTS AND TOURISM. I ACTUALLY START DECEMBER 27TH SO DON'T REALLY HAVE MUCH OF A BREAK."

A COMMUNICATION MAJOR IN UNDERGRAD. THE REDSHIRT JUNIOR HOPES TO CONTINUE HIS BASKETBALL CAREER BEYOND COLLEGE, AND IS NOW CHOOSING A GRAD PROGRAM THAT WILL GUARANTEE SPORTS REMAIN A PART OF HIS FUTURE.

"I KNOW I WANT TO STICK AROUND SPORTS AND WHETHER OR NOT THAT'S COACHING I REALLY DON'T KNOW YET BUT MAYBE I'LL FIND OUT THROUGH THIS PROGRAM."
