CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) — A 16-year-old was arrested on Monday after police said he stole a John Deere Tractor.
The Champaign Police were dispatched at 2:30 a.m. for a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Country Fair Drive near Springfield Avenue.
Police say as officers arrived, they located a John Deere tractor weaving across the roadway at a low speed and initiated a traffic stop.
We're told the driver of the tractor failed to yield for the stop before exiting the roadway and taking the vehicle down pedestrian paths into Heritage Park.
Officers blocked traffic in the surrounding area as they attempted to stop the vehicle, which ultimately stopped due to a mechanical failure.
The 16-year-old male driver attempted to flee on foot but was stopped and arrested without incident on pending traffic charges.
In determining where the tractor had come from, officers learned that it had been stolen from a worksite in Savoy.
