Active fire at ADM plant in Decatur
A fire broke out at the facility at 8:30 a.m. Monday in a vessel in ADM's corn wet mill in Decatur.
Local authorities were called in and employees were evacuated from the building as a precaution.
Fire officials said a tank that was under construction caught fire on site and it was difficult to reach, as the tank was located in the middle of the building.
"To get hose all the way back there and then get it up four flights of stairs and when I saw four stories, that might be 18-20 flights a piece," Fire Chief Jeff Abbott, of the Decatur Fire Department, said.
Fire crews were able to quickly contain the fire and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the damage to the facility is being assessed.
The Decatur Fire Department has crews on scene at the ADM plant on the 4300 block of East Faries Parkway.
Newschannel 20 is headed to the scene.
