Agtech added to Research Park
AGCO Acceleration Center opened its doors in Research Park Thursday afternoon.
The office has about 10 employees that come from a mix of computer science and agriculture backgrounds. The center will also collaborate with seven Universtiy of Illinois students on farm technology innovation.
The center is meant to develop new technologies for farmers so they can be more efficient in harvesting plants and raising livestock.
"Every piece of equipment farmers use today is tracking data, whether it's how much fuel it's using, what kind of emissions it has, how efficient things are working in it, the speed of things” AGCO Acceleration Center site director Lena head said. “So there are all those data points and understanding what they're trying to tell us with the data is a really big focus for us."
Farmers said there is a higher demand for food than ever before and they expect the food needs to grow as the world population increases.
