Anonymous tips lead to arrest in Danville homicide investigation
Danville Police Department credits the community’s cooperation in making an arrest in a homicide investigation.
On Saturday, Sept. 16., 29-year-old Tyrell Henderson was shot and killed in the 2300 block of Cannon Street in Danville.
As police began their investigation, they asked anyone with information to come forward.
"Anyone with information related to this crime that took place we ask them to call Danville Police,” Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said in an interview with Fox Illinois on Monday.
On Wednesday, Thomas was proud to report that anonymous tips from the community helped, “lead to this arrest so quickly.”
According to police, an arrest warrant for first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon was issued for 34-year-old Yuri Lillard, of Danville.
Thomason said U.S. Marshals were informed of the warrant and took Lillard into custody Tuesday night in Colorado Springs, CO. without incident.
Thomas said it’s important to note that while the arrest happened more than 1,000 miles away, “that came from individuals stepping up anonymously.”
A showing of community/police collaboration that has Thomason hopeful.
“I'm tickled to death, because the community as a whole has recognized the problems we have with violence relations,” Thomason said.
