Blame Game Over Budget Negotiations Continue
There still aren't any meetings scheduled between leaders and Governor Rauner, but some working groups met Tuesday and are meeting Thursday.
This comes as Governor Rauner insists Speaker Madigan only wants a stopgap budget and refuses to compromise on a full deal.
Governor Rauner sparred with reporters Wednesday over whether or not the Speaker has said he wants a tax increase above 5 percent or a stopgap budget calling it an argument over semantics.
"It's a waste of time. He wants number eight. He wants a short term stopgap incomplete, pick your word, he calls it a budget, it isn't a budget because a budget needs to be balanced to be constitutional and it's not a budget," said Gov. Rauner.
Speaker Madigan's spokesperson says the Speaker has repeated multiple times that he wants a full budget.
He also says that it's the Governor's job to propose how much money they want to spend since his office is the one that spends it.
