Central Illinois Foodbank receives large donation Thursday
The Central Illinois Foodbank received a generous donation Thursday.
Over $5,000 was donated to the foodbank from CHS Grain Elevator in Shipman, Ill.
This is the sixth year the elevator has participated in the "Harvest for Hunger" Campaign.
In the past six years, the campaign has raised over $53,000 for the foodbank.
Organizers said the money will help provide healthy food for local families.
"So a donation like this will help us purchase about 20,000 pounds of produce. So if you're looking at a typical family to get about 10 pounds per family, this will help a few thousand families," Public Relations Manager Ashley Earnest said.
Organizers said summer is a critical time for donations because students are out of school.
So families are more in need of nutritious meals.
