CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) — A Champaign man is facing life-threatening injuries after a shooting on Wednesday.
Police were dispatched to the 1200 Block of Providence Circle in Champaign for a report of a Shooting with Injuries.
Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old male victim from Champaign with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound.
Officers and personnel with the Champaign Fire Department immediately rendered aid until emergency personnel could arrive.
The victim was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, where he remains in critical condition.
Police say the initial investigation indicates a fight was taking place between multiple people when an unknown subject(s) fired multiple rounds toward the crowd, striking one person before fleeing the area.
Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available. At this time, no other injuries or property damage have been confirmed.
