City of Springfield owed over $100,000 for its state fairground fire protection services

City of Springfield owed over $100,000 for its state fairground fire protection services.

The city of Springfield is owed about $109,000 from the state of Illinois and those are payments that go towards the fire protection services provided to the state fairgrounds.

The last payment the city received was in 2016 and another one is due in June.

If that payment were to also go unpaid, the city will then be owed $218,000.

Regardless of the money owed, officials said the services will still be provided.

"Nothing's going to change. I mean obviously, safety is paramount for what we do and that is an area we cover. We're not going to simply not cover it because we haven't been paid as of yet. We have every expectation we are going to be paid and therefore we are going to continue to provide those services," Director of the Office of Budget and Management Bill McCarty said.

City officials said attorneys for each party have been in contact and they hope to have a resolution to the issue soon.
