Early morning fire destroys Springfield home

Fire destroys Springfield house (WRSP)

Fire crews were called to the 900 block of N. 9th St., near Enterprise St. in Springfield, at about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Arriving firefighters say they saw flames coming from the house.

It took more than two dozen firefighters to put out the blaze.

A mother and her child survived with no injuries.

A man, their neighbor living in an apartment in the same house, was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire could have possibly started towards the back of the home.

The mother had recently completed her Christmas shopping when she lost everything.

Both the mother and Springfield Fire Marshal Chris Richmond agreed that it was a miracle no one was killed.

A cat possibly died in the blaze.
