SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — Governor JB Pritzker signing legislation to build on the Rebuild Illinois capital plan.
Under the HB 253, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is required to establish a transportation performance program to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Illinois' transportation system.
The goal is to also save taxpayer dollars by developing a performance-based project selection process to make sure Illinois roads and bridges remain in good condition.
HB 253 passed both the House and the Senate with unanimous bipartisan support.
“This legislation will empower the hardworking team at IDOT to ensure those investments go as far as possible," said Gov. Pritzker. "And by establishing a performance-based project selection process, the administration is doubling-down on our commitment to being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.”
HB 253 goes into effect immediately.
