A Mt. Zion police officer interviewed Kassie Benton at the Decatur Police Department Jan. 18.

Benton was brought to the department as part of an investigation conducted by Decatur PD.

Police said Benton was being investigated for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student that attended Eisenhower High School in 2018.

Benton is employed as a secretary at the high school.

She has been employed since August 2015 with the high school.

During the interview with police, Benton said she had given the student rides to early bird classes, approximately 30-40 times while employed as a secretary.

She also told officers she knew the student was 17 and turned 18 in October of 2018.

Police said she had intercourse with the student in March of 2018 when he came over to her Mt. Zion residence.

During an interview with police, the student confirmed he had sexual intercourse with Benton around February or March of 2018 when he was an Eisenhower student.

Decatur Public Schools, District 61, has issued this statement:

"The District was made aware of the arrest of an employee at Eisenhower High School and an investigation is being conducted. The employee has been suspended from work, pending the investigation. The safety of our students is a high priority at Decatur Public Schools."
