Illinois State Police respond to over 1,000 calls in snow storm

    With the heavy snow in central Illinois Saturday, Jan. 12, Illinois State Police have been very busy.

    As of Saturday afternoon, ISP said in a Facebook post they've handled the following:

    • 783 motorist assists
    • 278 traffic crashes
    • 1 fatal crash

    In total, as of 1 p.m., ISP has responded to 1,160 incidents (465 calls for service and 695 field initiated incidents.


    Police are urging everyone to stay indoors if possible.

    If you do have to travel, police said to please slow down, buckle up, avoid distractions and give snowplows room to work.
