Lawmakers talk Preschool for All funding
URBANA, Ill. (WCCU) —
Comptroller Susana Mendoza and Representative Carol Ammons stopped by Urbana Head Start Monday morning to follow up on the progress of the Preschool for Everyone grant.
The grant was used to expand the number of children accepted and make improvements at the center. The program helps with kindergarten readiness for families in need.
While the grant has helped, there is still a long wait list.
"We have a good 250 maybe 300 children who are currently not being served,” Rep. Ammons said. “And so my office, as well as Senator Bennett and other representatives, really see the need for us to expand services for Preschool for All, matching our state dollars with our federal dollars so that we can do more."
For fiscal year 2018, the program received more than $675,000, which put 328 children through the program.
