Legacy of Giving raises more than $22K for local charities
Several local charities received a financial boost Friday.
The Legacy of Giving Music Festival gathered more than $22,000 and donated it to 12 local organizations.
One of those charities is Compass for Kids. It's a summer camp and after school program that gives at-risk kids academic, social and emotional support. Compass for Kids also provides food and other resources they may not get anywhere else.
"You often don't know about the lives of other kids in your neighborhood or in your community who are less fortunate than you," Molly Berendt, executive director, Compass for Kids. “And it's hard to believe if you haven't met them and gotten to know them and built relationships with the kids and with their families, and all they need is that extra support.”
Compass for Kids serves about 250 kids a year.
The executive director says the money will go towards the organization's after school programs.
