Local food bank wraps up hunger action month
As Hunger Action month wraps up, representatives with the Central Illinois food bank explained how they're doing with donations.
All month long officials have pushed their 10 gallon challenge. If you give $10 through the food bank, 10 gallons of milk can be donated to families in need.
Officials say their goal was $1,000 dollars and so far have exceeded that amount raising $1,200 dollars.
Donations are beneficial because thousands of families are without food everyday.
"It's really important for people to realize that while donations during the holidays are important, it's important during the summer and other months as well," Central Illinois Food Bank PR Manager, Ashley Earnest said.
In the Central Illinois area alone, more than 100,000 people don't know where their next meal is coming from.
