NOKOMIS, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) -- UPDATE:
As of 9:42 p.m. on Thursday, the water main break has been repaired and water restored. There is a boil order for Nokomis until further notice.
The city of Nokomis is currently undergoing a major water line break, as of Thursday afternoon, and water may be turned off until midnight.
The break is located in the downtown Nokomis area. The main line is located between the water treatment facility and the water tower.
Public works officials are working to repair the break.
Residents can get water from the water heater, if needed and can be a 15 to 40 gallon supply, depending on the size of the tank.
Officials said most water heaters have a drain valve near the bottom of the tank where water can be drained. The water is suitable for things such as flushing toilets or hand washing.
Residents are urged not to contact Nokomis City Hall for information, as the staff is currently very busy working to get the water line repaired.
