Mattoon police: Prostitution leads to physical fight
Mattoon police arrested Christopher Tomasello, 26, of Mattoon, for the offenses of patronizing a prostitute, aggravated battery with a weapon and reckless driving.
The arrest occurred at 9:37 a.m., July 5 at the police department.
The charges allege Tomasello solicited and received illicit services from a female July 4 in his motor vehicle in the 800 block of S. 14th Street in Mattoon.
Tomasello then failed to pay for the services and allegedly lured the female into the bed of his truck. He then drove away recklessly, in an attempt to throw her out of the truck.
A physical altercation then ensued shortly thereafter between Tomasello and the female. Police said it was then that Tomasello struck the female with a metal wrench, causing non-life threatening injuries.
Tomasello was taken to the Coles County Jail.
Also arrested in this incident was Samantha Schwanke, 21, of Mattoon, who was arrested for prostitution.
Police said Schwanke came to the police department at 10:56 a.m., July 4 to report the incident.
Schwanke was issued a notice to appear in the Coles County Court.
A charge of aggravated battery against Schwanke will also be sent to the states attorney's office for review and that alleges Schwanke stabbed Tomasello with a knife during their physical altercation, which caused non-life threatening injury.
