URBANA, Ill. (WCCU) — A University of Illinois professor created new technology to help prevent bed sores from forming.
It’s thanks to a sensor about the size of a penny. It’s placed in areas where pressure would be placed.
The sensors then pick up any signs of pressure and will alert a caregiver to alleviate the pressure being placed.
Sensors will be tested for the first sometime this summer.
"Once the bed sore occurs then that increases the chance for infection and that can increase the chance for prolonged hospitalization and even death," said Sleep Physician Charles Davies.
After perfecting the sensors, Dr. Davies said they will start to use these sensors throughout Carle Hospital.
