A bill to remove the statute of limitations for sex crimes against minors has passed the Senate with unanimous support.

Senator Scott Bennett and Attorney General Lisa Madigan worked together to pass the bill.

The measure came after it was discovered former House Speaker Dennis Hastert reportedly abused four students when he was a high school wrestling coach in the 1970's.

However, because the allegations came out after the statute of limitations expired he could not be prosecuted for the abuse.

The bill now goes to the House.
