Citing the crisis in Afghanistan, Rep. Miller said Congress must act to impeach President Biden.

"President Joe Biden has shown a reckless disregard for the safety and security of our troops stationed overseas and Americans here at home. Congress must act and begin immediate impeachment hearings to hold the President responsible for the decisions he made that cost service members their lives.
As we mourn the sailor and Marines who were killed yesterday and pray for their families, we must hold the person responsible for planning and approving this withdrawal accountable.
The President authorized a poorly planned withdrawal of US troops that allowed 600,000 weapons, 75,000 vehicles and 200 aircraft funded by US taxpayers to be seized by the Taliban. President Biden allowed the Taliban to release 5,000 al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners without securing high-level operatives who pose a threat to the homeland.
At the same time, President Biden has allowed our southern border to remain open and exposed for any foreign national to cross unimpeded and remain in the United States.
The President cannot explain why he ordered the Pentagon to abandon Bagram Airfield on July 2, 2021, forcing our military to now rely on a commercial airport with a single runway in an area impossible to secure in order to evacuate Americans.
Throughout this crisis, President Biden's conduct and behavior has been erratic. When asked about abandoning Bagram in July, he responded, "I want to talk about happy things, man," and, "Look, it's Fourth of July." As Afghanistan fell to the Taliban and it became clear Americans were in harm's way, President Biden went on vacation, first to Delaware, then to Camp David, where he disappeared as Kabul fell. He appears to become lost and disoriented during interviews and press conferences and cannot function as Commander In Chief in his present state.
The Congress serves a vital role in our democracy as a check on the Executive Branch with the ability to impeach and convict the President. The Democrat Party used this power for political purposes, impeaching President Trump over a phone call to the President of Ukraine that they never heard but concluded was an impeachable offense.
It is far more appropriate for Congress to use the impeachment power when it is clear that a President's actions are a risk to the lives and safety of US service members and Americans at home.
Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Adam Schiff were zealous in their pursuit of impeachment over a phone call. I can only hope they would give equal weight to the lives of our servicemen and the American citizens they are sworn to protect."
